Electronic Component Failure

Failure Investigation

Electronic Component Failure

If you’ve worked with producing or assembling electronic components, you know how it can be for things to stop working. There can be any number of causes, from inauthentic parts to improper assembly.

Determining the root cause of a failure typically requires a comprehensive analysis of the failed component(s), to examine all possible causes of failure such that a strong fact-based validated conclusion may be achieved.

What are the issues we solve?

The investigation of component faults of the in-service failure of electronic components, using cutting edge equipment to determine the root cause and associated factors resulting in the failure.

For example:

Using our precision cutting, mounting, and polishing equipment, we can prepare a sample of your component for detailed microscopy analysis and photography, as well as chemical analysis if required.

Take the unknown out of your electronic failure issue. Allow our decades of expertise work for you.

How we found a solution for our client

The Problem: A purchaser of pre-assembly electronic components, contacted us seeking advice regarding a printed circuit board assembly which was showing failure in one specific component. This component was showing failure across multiple samples and batches.

The Process: Our initial microscopy analysis suggested that a crack had occurred around the plated through-hole the component used. We then mounted the circuit board in epoxy resin, and prepared a cross section along the

The Result: Combined with other observations on the state of the circuit board, we were able to conclude that prior to our clients receiving the components, an assembly process had put undue pressure on the component, causing the plated through-hole to fracture. Our client was reimbursed by the supplier for their losses.

When you contact BBB Technologies, we will work directly with you to establish the background of your case, the probable causes of failure, and the best approach to reach an indisputable conclusion.
