Expert Witness Services in Materials Investigation

Materials are used in many millions of applications and processes and oftentimes, for at the time seemingly unknown reasons, the material will fail. As an example, our laboratories are regularly contacted to investigate the failure of construction sealants, paints, glues and a range of other rigid or semi-rigid materials such as metals, plastics and rubber.

Very often, the suspected failure of any material, may in time proceed down the litigation path and in these instances, we are requested to act as Expert Witnesses for one party or another.

An expert has been identified as person ‘with the status of an authority on a subject by reason of special skill, training, education and experience’. The expert is one who has made a particular and special study, practice or observation of a subject and must have specialised knowledge in the particular subject.

There are generally several reasons for consulting our Expert Witness Services. The party requesting our assistance may want a person to comment on the pro’s and cons of each parties positions. In effect, they are looking for a person to develop or advance a particular argument on their behalf and at the same time, someone to help the client promote their interests over any other interests. This understanding is at odds with the true role of an Expert Witness.

At its core, the function of an expert witness is to assist the decision maker (the court), with the information about the specialist area which is necessary before a decision can be made.

In conclusion, when requested to act as an Expert Witness
